The Defensoría del Consumidor, led by Ricardo Salazar, announced that it is already implementing measures to protect domestic and international vacationers during the Easter holiday. Among the notable measures are inspections of food, products, and services, with the goal of ensuring compliance with current regulations, especially regarding prices and promotions.

As part of its work, the institution will verify that advertising is respected and that credit card payments are processed appropriately, avoiding abuse or deceptive practices. The inspections will be carried out at various tourist spots and commercial establishments with high visitor traffic during the season.
So far in 2025, the Defensoría del Consumidor has recovered US$11.8 million for 4,780 consumers in individual cases. This figure reflects active management, although still far from the US$40.2 million recovered in all of 2024, resulting from both individual and collective actions.

Furthermore, it has been emphasized that one of the main objectives of these inspections will be to review the expiration dates of products offered in retail stores, restaurants, and convenience stores, removing those that have already expired from circulation to prevent risks to consumers’ health.
The institution’s delegates will also verify that advertised promotions and offers contain clear and complete information, thus avoiding misleading or confusing advertising. These actions seek to ensure a safe and transparent experience for consumers during the holiday season.
