For the first time in history, El Salvador participates in the 68th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This event brings together more than 170 member countries, providing a crucial forum for dialogue and cooperation on issues related to nuclear energy. During the conference, El Salvador’s Director General of Energy, Hydrocarbons and Mines, Daniel Alvarez, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the peaceful development of nuclear energy, aligning with international standards and treaties ratified with the IAEA.
Alvarez stressed that El Salvador’s participation in this important meeting reflects the country’s interest in diversifying its energy matrix. He stressed that the incorporation of nuclear energy is part of a broader effort to reduce dependence on external resources, which will contribute to greater energy stability and environmental protection.
Under the leadership of President Nayib Bukele, El Salvador is taking decisive steps towards modernizing its energy sector. The commitment to nuclear energy not only seeks to diversify energy sources, but also to strengthen the commitment to sustainability and improve the quality of life of its citizens.
The Director General emphasized that by following international standards and collaborating closely with the IAEA, El Salvador ensures a safe and efficient integration of nuclear energy into its energy matrix. This strategy represents a significant step towards a more independent and environmentally responsible energy future for the country.
