The General Director of Energy, Hydrocarbons and Mines, Daniel Alvarez, announced in his social networks that El Salvador will host the 11th Congreso de Geotermia para América Latina y El Caribe (GEOLAC), organized by the World Bank and with the support of the International Geothermal Association (IGA).
“The eyes of the world will once again be on El Salvador”, said the President of the Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL) referring to this international event that will bring together all Latin American and Caribbean countries that have geothermal resources or have the projection of exploring this type of renewable energy generation in the future.
During GEOLAC, countries will agree on the necessary actions to be taken to boost geothermal energy generation, discuss the international perspective and evaluate actions to be taken to increase international cooperation. Through panels, discussion forums, working tables and presentations they will develop several topics, such as: The dynamics of financing and bankability of geothermal in the region, geothermal and the nexus with industrial growth, food security and the economy; as well as, technology and innovative approaches to be made by the countries of the world that will reduce costs and increase viability, among other topics.
Among the countries that will receive El Salvador are Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, Bolivia, Grenada, Kenya and the United States through the U.S. Department of Energy; as well as representatives of international organizations, investment agencies, geothermal associations and private companies.
The 2024 edition of GEOLAC will be held for the first time in El Salvador on december 4 and 5 of this year and it has been the leadership of President Nayib Bukele that has allowed the organizers to see our country as a host nation, mainly because of the good security climate.
