The Defensoría del Consumidor (DC) published this friday the survey habits and preferences of consumption on Father’s Day, which reveals that 55% of salvadorans will celebrate this holiday on june 17.
The digital survey conducted between may 26 and june 6, 2025, had a sample of 1,655 consumers. The 60% of the participation in the survey corresponds to women, and 45% to men.

The Defensoría del Consumidor details that 69% of salvadorans consider Father’s Day an “important and very important” holiday to celebrate or give a gift.

When probed the motivations for celebrating, the results show that 34% of respondents do it out of gratitude; 32% because he deserves it, while 21% indicated that by tradition or custom. Other reasons mentioned in smaller percentages are because they like it, to please their family and because they are asked to do so.

The president of the Defensoría del Consumidor, Ricardo Salazar, reported that 51% of salvadorans will celebrate with a meal at home, preferably lunch (52%), while 26% will take it to a restaurant, followed by 18% who will celebrate with a family outing.
Among the consumption habits and preferences on the eve of Father’s Day, the surveyed population revealed the following trends with multiple choice answers: 50% said they prefer to give clothes, 39% lotions, 31% cake, 31% footwear, 18% cash, and 7% tools.

In the same order, 76% will make their purchases in shopping malls, 29 % in social networks, followed by websites (13%) and online stores (10%); while 8% in supermarkets, among others.

Forty-eight percent of respondents said they will spend more than US$30 and less than US$60 on the gift and holiday; 23% less than US$30, followed by 19% who will spend more than US$60 and less than US$90; and 10% more than US$90.
Six out of ten (62%) salvadorans indicated that they will pay for their purchases with money from their salary, 38% from their savings and, in smaller percentages, from their own business (9%), remittances (7%), pension (3%) and credit card (2%).
At the same time, almost seven out of ten consumers surveyed (67%) said they will take advantage of promotions, offers and discounts to buy gifts for their father.

Thirty-eight percent will take advantage of seasonal promotions in department stores, 18% in restaurants, while 16% through credit card promotions and 11% in supermarkets, as well as in shoe stores (9%), bakeries/cafes (7%) and pharmacies (1%).
