At the IV Meeting of the Joint Commission for Technical and Scientific Cooperation, the governments of El Salvador and Ecuador announced a renewed focus on agriculture and the food industry. This virtual meeting, led by Karla de Palma, director of the Agencia de El Salvador para la Cooperación Internacional (ESCO), marked the beginning of a new cooperation program for the period 2024-2026, designed to improve the quality of life of the salvadoran population.
Among the areas included on this occasion are agriculture, livestock, aquaculture, forestry, food industry, solid waste, among others.
During the meeting, specific projects were discussed that seek to strengthen agricultural production and the food value chain. These efforts are aligned with the public policies of both countries, recognizing agriculture as a fundamental pillar for economic and social development. “The portfolio of projects includes key initiatives that will directly benefit farmers and the food industry”, said de Palma.
The Director of the Cooperation Office, William Deleón, reaffirmed El Salvador’s commitment to the effective implementation of these initiatives. “We are dedicated to strengthening cooperation ties, ensuring that agriculture and the food industry become engines of sustainable development for our communities”, he said during his speech.
Isabel Albornoz Garzón, Ecuador’s Undersecretary for Economic Affairs and International Cooperation, praised the collaboration between the two governments. “We appreciate El Salvador’s willingness to work together to promote agricultural and industrial initiatives that will benefit our peoples”, she said, emphasizing the importance of bilateral cooperation.
This meeting not only lays the groundwork for a comprehensive approach to agricultural development and the food industry, but also represents a significant step towards a more prosperous and sustainable future for both countries, at a time when food security is more crucial than ever.
