The Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) approved $100 million in financing to modernize El Salvador’s education system. This project will benefit 100,000 students and 2,000 teachers by improving the infrastructure and technology of 125 schools in the country.

The financing will help optimize the school system, implement educational technologies, and strengthen teacher training. In addition, school management will be improved, promoting a more inclusive and quality education.
The funds will also be used to modernize the physical infrastructure of educational centers, including the provision of technological devices and adequate equipment. In addition, the administrative and financial management system will be strengthened to improve operations.

The project seeks to optimize learning, the scalability of the school system and its sustainability at the national level. Among its key components are the strengthening of human talent, the management of school nutrition and mobility, and the modernization of physical and digital facilities.
“With this financing we are supporting the government’s plans to provide quality and inclusive education, reduce the basic skills gap, and prepare citizens for the challenges of the digital era”, said Sergio Diaz-Granados, CAF’s executive president.

Between 2022 and 2024, CAF has approved USD 1.385 billion in 12 sovereign credit operations for El Salvador, earmarked for education, infrastructure, access to potable water, trade, and telemedicine. This financial support strengthens the country’s development and its capacity to respond to economic and social challenges.
