The Defensoría del Consumidor has deployed inspection teams in different parts of the country during this season of commercial offers, in order to protect the rights of consumers. Ricardo Salazar, president of the institution, informed that, within the framework of this year-end plan, more than 4,400 consumers have been attended and approximately US$221,000 have been recovered for the benefit of some of them.
This monday, one of the teams went to the district of Sonsonate to verify compliance with the Consumer Protection Law in various commercial establishments. Ricardo Salazar led the day, in which practices related to improper charges, unauthorized charges, omissions in the financial system and problems related to product warranties were supervised.
In supermarkets, inspections include verifying that perishable products have labels that clearly indicate their expiration dates, as well as the presence of visible prices for consumers. This is to ensure transparency in the information provided by the stores.
The quality of food products is also a priority during these inspections. The teams verify that the food offered in supermarkets, restaurants and other establishments meets the quality and safety standards required by current regulations.
In addition, the electronic and physical records of the stores are reviewed to ensure that the guarantees offered to consumers are valid and properly supported. This type of action reinforces the public’s confidence in formal commerce and in the measures to protect their rights.
With these inspections, the Defensoría del Consumidor reiterates its commitment to safeguard the interests of citizens during the Christmas season, one of the most dynamic in terms of consumption.
