The Ministry of Finance signed a loan agreement for up to US$30 million with the OPEC Fund and another with IFAD, totaling US$31.3 million, to implement the Sustainable, Inclusive, and Nutritional Economic Development Program for Rural Areas (PROGRESAR Rural).
To increase the income, resilience, and food and nutritional security of families living in rural areas, the members of the Legislative Assembly ratified two loan agreements with 60 votes each. The funds, which come from two financing sources, will allow for the implementation of the Programa de Desarrollo Económico Sostenible, Inclusivo y Nutricional de las Zonas Rurales (PROGRESAR Rural)
In the 87th plenary session, legislators explained that one of the loans was signed on october 9th with the OPEC Fund for International Development, for up to US$30 million. The other was contracted by the Ministry of Finance on october 20th with the Fondo Internacional para el Desarrollo Agrícola (FIDA), for a total of US$31,300,000.
With these resources, the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG), which will be responsible for implementing the plan, will support 74,000 families of agricultural producers, including those headed by women who are heads of household or single mothers.
The residents who will benefit are those living in Zapotitán and Atiocoyo Sur, both in the department of La Libertad; Atiocoyo Norte, in Chalatenango; and Lempa Acahuaca, between the departments of Usulután and San Vicente.
