Each home delivered to resettled families in the department of La Libertad represents an investment of US$35,000, which covers the purchase of the land, the construction of the house, and the installation of basic services such as drinking water, electricity, and a septic tank system. This was reported by Housing minister Michelle Sol during the handover of keys and property deeds to beneficiaries in the municipality of La Libertad Costa.
The beneficiary families previously resided in areas considered high risk, specifically in rights of way in the sector known as El Faro and in the community of Jerusalem. These areas were vulnerable due to their location and inadequate conditions for safe housing.
The new homes were built in the Estancia del Mar subdivision, located in the Cangrejera canton, in the district of La Libertad. According to the official, the project guarantees not only decent housing but also legal security for the families, as they formally receive their property deeds.
The minister emphasized that having a deed provides legal certainty and eliminates the risk of evictions or conflicts over land tenure, situations that affected many families in the past in different subdivisions throughout the country. She also explained that the land where the homes were built has the necessary permits, allowing owners to make future additions if they wish.
The Resettlement Program is implemented by the National Housing System and is aimed at relocating families living in hazardous areas, such as riverbanks, ravines, slopes, or gullies. During the current administration, this program has represented a cumulative investment of US$56 million.
As part of these actions, homes have also been delivered in projects such as Vista al Lago, where 79 families received new homes, consolidating their assets and improving their living conditions.
The authorities pointed out that the government’s vision is to ensure that salvadoran families not only have access to adequate housing, but also have legal support for their property, basic services installed, and safe conditions that protect their integrity.
