dinero_admin The Legislative Assembly issued a favorable opinion to reform the Budget Law 2025 and thus incorporate US$5,428,944 to the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y de Transporte (MOPT), with the objective of executing projects that strengthen the penitentiary system in El Salvador.
The amount will be used for two key initiatives: the acquisition of more than 3,100 electronic bracelets to monitor inmates in the trust phase, and the equipment of industrial kitchens in priority prisons.
Of the funds approved, US$3,945,168 will be used for the purchase, installation, and operation of a system of electronic devices that will make it possible to monitor inmates participating in the Zero Idle Program. These inmates collaborate in activities such as school construction, beach cleaning, and maintenance of tourist infrastructure.
The system will include bracelets, software, licenses, manuals, and connectivity to a monitoring center to ensure more efficient control of inmates in community work.
The second project involves an investment of US$1,483,776 for the construction and equipping of industrial kitchens, funds that will cover change orders for construction and supervision contracts in selected prisons.
This financing is part of a US$71 million loan approved in 2013 by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), a portion of which corresponds to the MOPT as executing agency.
