The Salvadoran banking system registered total assets of US$24,639.2 million in september 2024, according to a report by the Asociación Bancaria Salvadoreña (ABANSA). This amount represents an inter-annual growth of US$1,178.1 million, equivalent to an increase of 5% with respect to september 2023.
Banco Agrícola leads the sector with US$5,907 million in assets, consolidating its position as the country’s leading bank. It is followed by Banco Cuscatlán with US$4,128.5 million, while BAC Credomatic increased from US$3,232.9 million in september 2023 to US$3,574 million in september 2024, occupying the third position.
Among the smaller banks, Citibank and ABANK ranked in the last places, with assets of US$223.9 million and US$170.2 million, respectively. Despite their smaller scale, both institutions maintained stability in their share.
The overall growth in assets reflects the strength of the salvadoran financial system. This dynamism responds to the expansion of loans and deposits, key elements for boosting the national economy.
Looking ahead to 2025, it is expected that the system will continue its positive trend, reinforcing the confidence of users and actors in the sector. These figures are indicative of sustained growth in the country’s banking sector.
