The General Director of Internal Taxes, Marvin Sorto, announced that there are 46 days left to take advantage of the Tax Amnesty period in El Salvador. This initiative allows citizens to catch up with their tax obligations without the burden of fines and interest accrued for late payments.
Sorto emphasized that the Tax Amnesty does not exempt the population from paying their taxes, but it does eliminate additional penalties. “It is a valuable opportunity for salvadorans to regularize their tax situation and avoid future complications”, said the director.
In addition, he clarified that the Ministry of Finance cannot exonerate traffic fines, but it can exonerate the surcharges and interest derived therefrom. This measure is complemented with the possibility of making payments in up to nine installments, thus easing the financial burden for taxpayers.
The process to access this amnesty is agile and digital. Sorto explained that those interested only need to enter the Ministry of Finance portal to file their pending returns or generate a new Taxpayer Identification Number (NPE).
With time running out, the Director called on citizens not to miss this opportunity. The Tax Amnesty represents an accessible way to regularize debts and avoid future inconveniences with the Treasury.
