El Salvador’s Ministry of Housing has transformed the lives of thousands of families by recovering 9,000 homes nationwide through the Recuperando Viviendas program. With an investment of US$115 million, this initiative has not only guaranteed a safe roof over their heads, but has also opened up access opportunities with unique conditions: zero premium and social interest rates as low as 2%, allowing significantly lower installments than an average rent. These measures mark a milestone in the search for decent and affordable housing solutions.
This government effort has restored hope to communities that in the past were controlled by gang groups. Thanks to the security strategies implemented, salvadoran families not only have a place to live, but also a safe environment for their personal and social development. The recovery of these housing spaces symbolizes a community rebirth and reinforces the government’s commitment to citizen well-being.
A tangible example of this change is the La Campanera neighborhood in Soyapango, which now has a modern social and recreational space. This project includes a community hall, a psychosocial care module, children’s play areas and an outdoor gym, among other facilities. More than 12,000 residents of the area have benefited directly, finding a safe place to live and participate in recreational and community activities.
The recovery of homes and common spaces not only improves the quality of life of Salvadoran families, but also promotes the reconstruction of the social fabric. These initiatives reinforce security in communities, eradicating pockets of violence and allowing residents to regain confidence in their surroundings. This not only represents an immediate benefit, but also a legacy of stability and coexistence for future generations.
With measures such as these, El Salvador is moving towards an inclusive development model, where the dignity and security of families are at the center of public policies. This program not only delivers housing, but also recovers dreams, homes and entire communities.
