With a loan of US$320 million, the Legislative Assembly has approved the ambitious “El Salvador Vuela” project, which aims to modernize the country’s aeronautical infrastructure. This plan seeks to reduce air connectivity costs and times, strengthen tourism, and increase El Salvador’s international competitiveness.
The project includes the construction of the Pacific Airport, which will have a 2,400 meter runway. This new terminal will bring international connections closer to the coastal region, avoiding the need for travelers from this area to travel to San Salvador. In addition, the Ilopango Airport will be rebuilt and a new airfield will be built in Sonsonate.
Congressman William Soriano pointed out that, in addition to improving connectivity, this project will have a positive economic impact on nearby areas, generating employment and new opportunities for local development.
During the same plenary session, another loan of US$145 million was ratified for the construction of a submarine cable to improve the country’s digital infrastructure. This project will reduce international connectivity costs, allowing El Salvador to link up with important hubs for digital traffic and content.
Congressman Giovanny Zaldaña explained that this submarine cable, in addition to improving connectivity, will allow end users to enjoy a more accessible internet service at lower costs.
Both projects, which total US$465 million, reflect the country’s commitment to advance in the modernization of strategic sectors, both in air transportation and digital connectivity, with a view to strengthening the national economy and improving the quality of life.
