The salvadoran Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, reopened the Agro Mercado de Usulután, located in front of the local prison, on 2nd Avenida Norte. The initiative seeks to reduce the cost of the basic food basket for the inhabitants of the municipality, within the framework of Phase I of the Executive’s Economic Plan. From early hours, the space was crowded by citizens who celebrated the modernization of the facilities.

The renovated market offers 55 stalls with seasonal fruits, vegetables such as tomatoes, onions, broccoli and green chili, as well as meats, seafood and fresh dairy products, all grown or produced by local hands. Products are available at affordable prices from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., guaranteeing quality and fairness for consumers.
This strategy has contributed to a deflation in the prices of basic foodstuffs at the national level, according to authorities. The measure is part of efforts to stabilize the economy and alleviate household spending, prioritizing direct marketing between producers and buyers.

The new location, managed by the municipality of East Usulután, was chosen to expand access to the population. The site, before its opening, already generated expectations in social networks, where images of the structural improvements and the variety of products were viralized.
With this project, the Government plans to replicate the model in other areas, strengthening the Agro Mercados network as a hub for food security and local economic development. The initiative not only benefits consumers, but also boosts small salvadoran farmers and traders.
