With the delivery of a new road improvement project in the San Rafael canton, district of Tacuba, in Central Ahuachapán, the Dirección de Obras Municipales has totaled this weekend more than 40 kilometers of rural and urban roads renovated in that area of the western part of the country.
The DOM crews completed the project of 5.6 kilometers in length, with 4.7 kilometers of road width, of hydraulic concrete surface, from the intersection with the national route towards the San Rafael canton.

It includes extensions of about 130 meters from the intersection of the hamlet of La Fundación towards the health unit of the San Rafael canton and another 460 meters from the place known as Los Palmeros towards the San Rafael canton school center, which is being built by the DOM.

This new road also connects with the community house and the Centro Escolar Caserío Los Pinos, whose works will soon begin, and consisted of cleaning, layout, leveling, sub-base construction, 15-centimeter thick cement soil base, and hydraulic concrete track works. In addition, curbs and gutters, speed bumps and 21 concrete ramps for intersections with alternate roads and access to houses in hamlets such as Los Pinos, La Cooperativa, La Fundación, Los Palmeros, Lomas de Alonso and Loma Verde, among others, were built.

Through the Plan Nacional Bacheo in the urban area and the rural streets improvement project, the DOM has renovated more than 40 kilometers of streets that have boosted trade, economy, and tourism in this part of the western part of the country.

In Ahuachapán it has also revitalized the historic centers of Concepción de Ataco and Apaneca, but at the same time it is modernizing 12 schools to benefit more than 6,500 students.
