The official inauguration was accompanied by the Ministerio de Turismo (MITUR), in coordination with the Federación Salvadoreña de Vela (Fesavela). The competition, which will run until may 18, represents a key platform to promote water sports, as well as economic and tourism development in the area.
The Fesavela International Regatta stands out for its high sporting level and for promoting tourism in Ilopango, one of the country’s main natural attractions. In addition, during this edition, the Central American and Caribbean Sailing Confederation will award two qualifying places for the Central American and Caribbean Games 2026, which adds international relevance to the event.

The minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, stressed the importance of these meetings: “Holding sports tourism events is key for them to know all the beauties that El Salvador has, but above all because tourism and sport means pride”, she said.

The president of the Olympic Committee of El Salvador, Armando Bruni, emphasized the role of sports as a vehicle to strengthen the country’s image: “This type of event demonstrates the work being done in El Salvador to develop sports and the union between different actors”, he said.
The regatta is supported by MITUR, INDES, the Olympic Committee, Corsatur, Surf City, the Lotería Nacional and private sponsors. This public-private collaboration demonstrates the country’s potential to continue attracting international events that promote tourism and consolidate El Salvador as a reference in the sports field.
