The Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería announced that salvadorans over 18 years of age who are within the national territory can now renew their ordinary passport completely online, without needing to initially visit a branch.
The service is aimed at people whose passport has expired or is about to expire and who need to update their travel document quickly. The institution explained that the digital process seeks to reduce waiting times and facilitate the procedure from anywhere with internet access.
How does the process work?
The procedure is carried out through the official portal pasaporteenlinea.migracion.gob.sv. To begin, the user must log in with their Digital Identity and complete the application form according to the system’s instructions. If necessary, supporting documents must be attached.

The applicant then selects their preferred branch and makes the corresponding payment, which costs US$25.00. The system also allows them to choose the delivery method: branch pickup or home delivery, the latter incurring an additional fee.
Once submitted, the application undergoes a validation process. The status of the application can be checked via the web app and through the registered email address. The user will receive a notification if their application is approved or if any further information or instructions are required.
Document delivery
If the application is approved, the applicant can pick up their passport at the selected branch or have it delivered to their home, depending on the method chosen during the process.

Migration officials emphasized that this mechanism is part of the modernization of public services and the digitization of procedures, with the goal of offering more efficient, agile, and timely service. The implementation of the online system aims to facilitate access to travel documents and avoid unnecessary travel, especially for those who need to renew their passports promptly.
With this option, salvadorans have a practical alternative to keep their documents valid and plan trips without problems.
