The Ministerio de Trabajo y Previsión launched a National Inspection Plan this tuesday aimed at overseeing recruitment agencies operating within the country and those that manage the hiring of workers abroad. The institution reported that this sector has been operating, in many cases, outside the law, which has allowed for irregular practices that jeopardize the labor rights of salvadorans.
The minister of Labor, Rolando Castro, explained that the plan seeks to ensure that all agencies comply with current national regulations, including the mandatory accreditation processes with the institution.
He also noted that some entities have acted “irrationally and irresponsibly”, affecting people seeking employment opportunities both within and outside the country.
In addition to local regulations, the Ministry will require these agencies to comply with international standards for ethical recruitment, a measure that seeks to protect workers from improper charges, misleading offers, or abusive conditions that have been detected in various cases.
The National Inspection Plan is part of the actions promoted by the Government to strengthen labor protections and improve intermediation processes.
