El Salvador’s agricultural sector has implemented a process of increasing its cultivated area through the Production Increase Program. The Minister of Agriculture, Óscar Domínguez, confirmed that the plan focuses on expanding the planted area and optimizing the value chain for national producers.
The program has established more than 138 production zones throughout the country, aiming to generate geographic coverage. The zones include sectors such as La Majada, in the department of Sonsonate.
To date, the program has registered more than 2,300 manzanas (approximately 2,300 hectares) under cultivation. Production is carried out under a phased schedule, seeking to ensure a continuous supply of vegetables and greens to the national market.

The planting goal amounts to more than 7,000 manzanas (1.7 acres). The planting process combines mechanical and traditional methods, and the cultivated areas are already showing the initial sprouting stage.
Infrastructure such as mesh houses are used for crop protection and harvest management. These structures have been implemented in the production areas to manage environmental factors.
The program uses seed genetics that are resistant to pests and diseases. The selected varieties are suitable for different temperatures and altitudes, with a focus on yield. All genetic material used has been confirmed to be GMO-free. Bean production is part of the planting goals.
