The Government of El Salvador has reported zero cases of drowning during the current holiday season, a significant achievement attributed to the intensive monitoring and surveillance strategy at major tourist sites. This work has allowed salvadorans to enjoy the August Festivities safely, peacefully, and without any loss of life during their moments of healthy recreation.

The Deputy Director of Civil Protection, Fermín Pérez, emphasized that so far no deaths from this cause have been recorded, either in public or private settings, which underscores the effectiveness of the security deployment. The official called on the public to continue to comply with the authorities’ measures and recommendations to maintain these positive statistics and ensure the safety of all vacationers.
As part of the operation, authorities have carried out six simple water rescues and 16 deep rescues, demonstrating the response capacity and preparedness of personnel in emergency situations. Since last week, the Lifeguard Unit of the Dirección Nacional de Protección Civil has reinforced its presence on beaches, lakes, and parks, the most visited spots during this time.
The director of Protección Civil de El Salvador of El Salvador, Luis Alonso Amaya, provided statistics compared to 2024: “This is the third day of the holiday, 144 traffic accidents, a slight increase of 26% compared to 2024; 93 injuries, an increase of 50%; 9 deaths from traffic accidents, 115% more than the previous year; 15 arrests for dangerous driving, 2 fewer than last year”, the official explained.

Deputy Director Pérez emphasized that the remaining days of the holiday season are typically the busiest in tourist areas, requiring maximum attention. He especially urged adults responsible for children and the elderly to monitor them and, above all, to heed lifeguard instructions, such as those made via whistles or megaphones on the beach.
The Government of El Salvador prioritizes the lives and safety of its citizens, which is why all emergency response personnel are highly trained to provide effective and timely assistance. Protección Civil has a strategic deployment of 342 lifeguards on 31 beaches, seven parks, and two lakes, ensuring broad and specialized coverage in the busiest areas.

This achievement in water safety directly benefits the salvadoran population by allowing them to enjoy their vacations without fear of fatal accidents. The coordination and deployment of authorities not only save lives but also foster an environment of trust and safety, which contributes to the overall well-being of families visiting the country’s various tourist destinations.
