The Dirección General de Protección Civil issued a preventive warning at the national level regarding the entry of northerly winds, a climatic condition that will be influencing El Salvador in the coming days and that could generate strong gusts, a drop in temperatures and associated risks, especially in high and coastal areas of the country.
According to the authorities, this phenomenon is related to the arrival of Cold Front number 29 and the entry of polar air masses, which will cause an increase in the intensity of the winds and a cooler environment, mainly during the nights and early mornings. According to technical reports, the highest incidence will be recorded between this monday and tuesday, when gusts that could range between 50 and 70 kilometers per hour are expected, with the possibility of higher intensities in mountainous areas or in places where the topography favors wind acceleration.
For the rest of the week, starting on wednesday, a gradual change in atmospheric conditions is expected, with the return of the accelerated easterly flow. Although no rain is expected, the sky could be partially cloudy during the afternoons. Regarding temperatures, the environment will be warm during the day, especially in areas exposed to the sun, while at night it will feel cooler, especially in elevated areas.

Faced with this scenario, Protección Civil called on the population to adopt prevention measures and reduce risks. Among the main recommendations is avoiding agricultural burning, bonfires or burning garbage, since wind can quickly spread fires, especially in rural areas. Farmers are suggested to look for alternatives to the use of fire for land preparation and stubble removal.
Likewise, families are urged to check their homes, paying special attention to roofs, sheets, windows and other elements that may become detached due to gusts of wind. It is also recommended to check trees, branches, signs and structures that represent danger around homes and communities.
The authorities also insisted on the importance of dressing appropriately, especially children, older adults and people with respiratory diseases, who are more vulnerable to sudden changes in temperature. In the case of maritime and air navigation, as well as artisanal and sport fishing, it is requested to carefully evaluate the conditions before carrying out activities, due to the strong winds that can affect both deep waters and near the coast.

Protección Civil reiterated that it maintains constant monitoring of the climate situation, in coordination with the Ministry of the Environment and other institutions of the Sistema Nacional de Protección Civil, with the aim of preventing incidents and responding in a timely manner to any emergency.
Finally, citizens were urged to stay informed through official channels and to immediately report any risk situation or incident to the corresponding authorities, as part of the joint effort to reduce the impact of these climatic events in the country.
