With an investment of US$30 million, construction has begun on an overpass at the intersection of the Coastal Highway and the Acajutla Highway. This project will benefit approximately 20,000 vehicles that travel through the area daily. The project has an estimated completion time of 14 months and aims to reduce transportation times and costs, improving mobility and the quality of life for residents.
The first stone was laid by the minister of Obras Públicas (MOPT), Romeo Herrera, accompanied by the president of the El Salvador Empresa Transmisora de El Salvador (ETESAL), Edwin Núñez, and the director for El Salvador of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Alejandro Zelaya.
The project consists of the construction of an overpass, known as an “ear”, which will connect to the highway toward La Hachadura. According to Minister Romeo Herrera, this structure will allow vehicles to travel freely, without the need for traffic lights or roundabouts, significantly improving traffic flow.

“The idea is for vehicles to have free passage, without problems. Through overpasses and interchanges, we will solve the traffic problems for families and businesses in this area”, the minister said.
The president of the El Salvador Transmission Company, Edwin Núñez, said that the project is coordinated with the region’s electrical infrastructure. “The project passes near the Acajutla transmission line. We will build a new tower that will increase the voltage level and guarantee the energy supply for all homes”, he explained.
The director of the Dirección General de Aduanas de El Salvador Benjamín Mayorga, highlighted the economic impact: “The overpass will allow for more efficient transportation, consolidating El Salvador as one of the fastest countries in the region for import and export clearance”.

Finally, Alejandro Zelaya, director of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration for El Salvador, emphasized that the project not only improves traffic flow for drivers but also strengthens local economic conditions.
With the construction of this overpass, the intersection of the Coastal Highway and the Acajutla Highway will become a more efficient point for vehicular traffic and commerce, benefiting thousands of people daily.
