The Legislative Assembly approved with 58 votes the tax exemption for a donation of oncology drugs destined for Hospital Nacional Rosales. The measure will directly benefit patients suffering from Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST), who will receive free treatment thanks to this donation.

During the 66th plenary session, the deputies emphasized that the decision seeks to facilitate the entry of medications into the country, eliminating tax burdens that could hinder their prompt delivery. The exemption includes Value Added Tax (VAT), Import Duties (DAI), and any warehousing costs incurred by the entry of the drugs.
The donation comes from the Fundación MaxAid, an international organization that supports cancer patients in developing countries by providing access to high-quality treatments free of charge. This collaboration represents significant relief for the country’s public health system.

The authorities responsible for overseeing compliance with the regulations will be the General Directorate of Customs and the General Directorate of Internal Revenue, who will ensure that the process is carried out legally and without setbacks.
With this initiative, the Government and the Legislative Assembly reaffirm their commitment to the health of the most vulnerable salvadorans, promoting humanitarian measures that improve the quality of life of patients facing serious illnesses.
