The Viceministerio de Transporte (VMT) continues working to ensure the digital security of salvadorans and prevent any type of fraud that may harm citizens. Recently, the institution detected the circulation of false messages notifying supposed traffic fines and including unofficial links for consultation or payment.

The head of the VMT, Nelson Reyes, informed that timely action was taken to warn the population about this modality of digital fraud. “It is important to be alert to any scam attempt. The message that was circulating included an unknown link and had already reached many people”, he explained, while emphasizing that these types of communications do not come from institutional accounts nor are they related to official government platforms.

The VMT intensified its preventive campaign through social networks, media, and coordination with other institutions, to alert citizens and prevent them from becoming victims of this scam. The institution reiterated that any inquiries regarding traffic violations should be made exclusively through Sertracen’s official website: https://www.sertracen.com.sv/index.php/esquelas
“The link they were sending to check or pay the fine was completely unknown. It did not have any of the official characteristics already published to guarantee its security”, warned Reyes. He also recommended the population not to enter suspicious links, not to share personal data via text messages and to report any unusual activity to the corresponding authorities.

The government reaffirms its commitment to protect citizens from digital threats, and will continue to strengthen control, response and prevention mechanisms against this type of crime, promoting secure and official channels for the consultation of information.
