With the purpose of helping the Salvadoran population, price surveys continue to be conducted in national markets, this time the Defensoría del Consumidor (DC) has reported on the prices of vegetables of the basic food basket in several key markets of El Salvador, including San Miguel Oeste, Santa Ana Oeste and San Vicente Norte.
The initiative aims to provide the population with a tool to compare prices and ensure the procurement of products at fair prices. In the municipality of San Miguel Oeste, specifically in El Tránsito market, vegetable prices are as follows: cooking tomato at US$0.17, red onion at US$0.33 per unit, potato at US$1.00 per pound, lettuce at US$1.00 per unit, carrot at US$0.25 per unit, green chili at US$0.20 per unit, and plantain at US$0.25 per unit.
In the San Sebastián market, San Vicente Norte, prices vary from US$0.25 per unit of red onion to US$0.75 per unit of güisquil.
In the Candelaria la Frontera market, Santa Ana Oeste, prices are: cooking tomato at US$0.10 per unit, white onion at US$0.25 per unit, broccoli at US$1.25 per unit, cucumber at US$0.25 per unit, green chili at US$0.25 per unit, and plantain at US$0.33 per unit. These data reflect the CD’s commitment to keep consumers informed about variations in the costs of essential products.
The measure seeks to increase price transparency and allow consumers to make informed decisions when making their purchases, thus ensuring the acquisition of products at reasonable and fair prices.
