The government has intensified its efforts to support the growth of micro and small enterprises, recognizing their crucial role in the national economy. Among the main initiatives is the creation of the National Policy for the Economic Integration of Micro and Small Businesses, launched last year, which seeks to facilitate the transition to the formal economy and promote support from the localities.
Paul Steiner, president of CONAMYPE, highlighted the presence of technical advisors distributed throughout the country, who are assigned to collaborate with three mayors’ offices each and three specialists in downtown San Salvador. Their work is focused on advising the mayors, preparing strategies and breaking with the idea that only works are needed to promote MSMEs.
The key, according to Steiner, lies in promoting initiatives, ordinances and public-private projects, as well as the development of tourism and local productivity.
This support enables CONAMYPE to design strategies that improve the cost-benefit ratio for MSMEs, promoting their formalization and consolidating favorable environments for their development. The objective is to strengthen micro and small enterprises, improving the income of entrepreneurs and contributing to the national economy.
Steiner emphasized that micro and small enterprises make up 99.6% of the country’s entrepreneurs, so it is essential to create the necessary conditions for their growth. Collaboration with municipalities plays a key role in this process, generating an environment conducive to their expansion.
The official also highlighted the advances in security, which have facilitated the establishment and growth of MSMEs. At the national level, retail stores have seen a 25% increase in their registrations, as a result of the security policies promoted by President Bukele’s government.
