The Centro de Innovación de Emprendimiento Digital (CIED) has been inaugurated in El Salvador with the aim of supporting micro and small enterprises (MSMEs) by providing modern facilities and access to advanced technological resources. This space has become a pillar for promoting growth, diversification, and competitiveness in the sector, fostering a favorable environment for entrepreneurship.
The CIED offers training, workshops, diploma courses and activities focused on strengthening entrepreneurial capabilities. It also includes a key component of digitalization and technological innovation, providing advanced tools such as 3D printers, drones, sublimation machines, engraving and laser cutting. This is complemented by solid technical support that includes assistance in production plans and occupational safety.
This initiative, a pioneer in the region, is led by the Comisión Nacional de la Micro y Pequeña Empresa (CONAMYPE) and the Ministry of Tourism, with the financial support of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The Agencia de El Salvador para la Cooperación (ESCO) and the Innovation Secretariat of the Presidency are also participating.
During the inauguration, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adriana Mira, highlighted the importance of innovation and technology in the country’s economic development. She stressed that this project reinforces the role of mypes as a key driver of the national economy, contributing 42% of GDP and 66% of formal employment.
The Korean Ambassador, Choo Won Hoon, expressed his satisfaction for supporting this initiative that strengthens local capacities and promotes sustainable development. He highlighted the collaboration between both nations as an example of how international cooperation can generate opportunities for a prosperous future.
The event was also presided over by the president of CONAMYPE, Paul Steiner, and representatives of KOICA, ESCO and UNDP, who agreed on the relevance of this alliance for strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem in El Salvador.
