A series of workshops have been held during the first three months of this year to train MSMEs in the tourism sector, both in Surf City La Libertad and in Vía Vela, Ilopango, as part of the project «Encadenamiento de MIPYMES para la Descarbonización», promoted by the AL-INVEST Verde program of the European Commission, in collaboration with the European Union in El Salvador, Fundación Empresarial para la Acción Social (FUNDEMAS) and the Cámara Alemana Salvadoreña de Comercio e Industria (AHK). In addition, locally in the areas of intervention, the initiative has been supported by CORSATUR, MITUR and ADESCO Bello Mar in Surf City, and the Mayor’s Office of Ilopango San Salvador Este.

The program seeks to promote low-carbon economies through the efficient use of resources in the recycling value chain, with a focus on MSMEs. It also seeks to expand access to markets in the recycling value chain to promote increased sales and job creation in these sectors.
During the first quarter of 2025, the project has carried out the following activities:
Workshops held in Surf City and Vía Vela.
January:
- Third module for the preparation of eco-efficiency and waste management manuals, aimed at companies in Surf City, La Libertad, with the participation of 13 business representatives, for the development of sustainable strategies, resource optimization and reduction of environmental impact.
- Personalized technical assistance was provided to 20 companies, to support the development of their eco-efficiency and waste management manuals.
February:
- The 4th module for the creation of eco-efficiency and waste management manuals was carried out, aimed at eight Surf City companies, consolidating the process of training and design of business sustainability strategies.
- Twenty-one personalized technical assistance sessions were provided to Surf City MSMEs for the preparation of their eco-efficiency and waste management manuals.
- The AL INVEST project was presented to MSMEs in the tourism sector of Vía Vela, in Ilopango, with the participation of 33 new business representatives who will take part in the training process.

March:
- Development of the first awareness workshop on biodiversity and waste management, with the participation of 21 business representatives from the tourism sector in Via Vela, Lake Apulo in Ilopango.
- The second awareness-raising workshop on eco-efficiency and risk management was held with the participation of 56 business representatives from Vía Vela, Lake Apulo in Ilopango.
- A third extraordinary awareness-raising session was held for businesses that did not attend the first session, bringing together 57 representatives of the tourism sector in Vía Vela, Lake Apulo in Ilopango.
- The second phase of the training program for the creation of eco-efficiency and waste management plans was completed, with their implementation plans, the respective presentation of diplomas and the presentation of the “PITCH elevators” of the manuals and plans by the MSMEs of Surf City in La Libertad.
- The preparation of 18 ecoefficiency and waste management manuals for SMEs and 22 ecoefficiency and waste management manuals for microenterprises in Surf City in La Libertad was completed.
- The ecoefficiency indicator monitoring platform is being developed, designed to support the SMEs participating in the project in managing and following up on their input and energy savings, waste management and sustainability initiatives.
- These initiatives have contributed to the strengthening of the beneficiary businesses and the promotion of good environmental practices in the participating companies
- They also reflect our continued commitment to the sustainable development of the tourism sector, encouraging the adoption of responsible and eco-efficient practices in the participating MSMEs. We will continue to strengthen our initiatives to contribute to the transformation of the sector and the preservation of our natural resources.
