In the framework of World Safer Internet Day, EY Central America highlights the importance of strengthening cybersecurity in organizations and protect information in the face of a constantly evolving threat landscape.

The need to adopt more robust digital protection strategies is supported by the 62% of Latin American companies that have suffered a data breach in the last year, according to the EY Global Cybersecurity Leadership Insights Study.
The study, which gathers the perspectives of more than 500 global cybersecurity leaders, reveals that 52% of companies in the region have experienced between one and nine data breach incidents in the last twelve months.
Data breaches not only generate significant economic losses, but can also affect the reputation of organizations and the trust of their customers and strategic allies. During 2022, 37% of companies surveyed indicated that cybersecurity incidents represented costs of less than $1.5 million, while 35% reported losses of between $1.5 million and $3 million.

The study also notes that while 55% of executives are satisfied with the integration of cybersecurity into senior management decisions, significant challenges remain. One of the main risks is the lack of compliance with good security practices by non-IT staff, which increases the vulnerability of organizations to cyber-attacks.
Likewise, emerging technologies pose new challenges, making it necessary to integrate more efficient preventive and reactive strategies. In this regard, EY recommends companies to implement security measures throughout the organization, with a comprehensive approach to detect and respond to threats proactively.

As part of this key date, EY reaffirms its commitment to digital security and data protection, accompanying companies in strengthening their cybersecurity strategies. “Organizations must see cybersecurity as an essential element in their corporate structure. It is not just a technological investment, but a digital security culture that must permeate at all levels”, said, Enrique Mendoza, Senior Cybersecurity Manager.
