Walmart received the “Alimentos Unidos” award in recognition of its commitment to the Banco de Alimentos de El Salvador (BAES) and its valuable contribution to food security for vulnerable populations and the responsible use of food through the “Ruta de Alimentos” program.

The award was accepted by Sandra Cáceres, Senior Corporate Affairs Specialist for Walmart in El Salvador, during an event commemorating World Food Day.
The “Ruta de Alimentos” program involves 11 distribution routes projected to deliver 10,000 kilograms of food, benefiting 6,300 people across six of the country’s departments: San Miguel, La Unión, Usulután, Morazán, Cuscatlán, and La Paz.

These activities are scheduled for october and november, aiming to bring food to communities facing access challenges and to strengthen support for beneficiary families.

Partnerships to strengthen food security
During the event, the Banco de Alimentos de El Salvador (BAES) highlighted the importance of collaboration between businesses and social organizations to recover food and facilitate its distribution to those who need it most.

Recovering and redistributing products suitable for human consumption makes it possible to make better use of available resources and helps reduce food waste.

Through initiatives like “Ruta de Alimentos”, the Banco de Alimentos seeks to expand the reach of food assistance in El Salvador by connecting available products with communities in need of support.

The recognition awarded to Walmart is part of collaborative efforts between the private sector and social organizations to contribute to food security and generate benefits for salvadoran communities.
