The Legislative Assembly approved in plenary session the budget and the Salaries Law for Fiscal Year 2025, with a significant reduction of US$11.3 million. With 56 votes in favor, the new budget amounts to US$46.9 million, which represents a decrease of US$7.2 million compared to the US$54.1 million approved for 2024 and US$11.3 million less than the US$58.3 million allocated in 2021.
The budget decrease includes a reduction of US$18.6 million in remuneration since the Nuevas Ideas deputies took office in 2021, reflecting the parliamentarians’ commitment to austerity and responsible management of public resources. This approach follows the savings policy promoted by President Nayib Bukele, who has guaranteed that the 2025 General State Budget will be fully funded.
Among the initiatives financed with the approved budget is the Dagoberto Gutiérrez Legislative Scholarship program, which seeks to support young Salvadorans in their academic training. In addition, there are plans to improve the technological infrastructure of the legislative precinct and remodel physical spaces to optimize the working conditions of employees.
The budget also ensures resources to carry out operational activities and meet the goals of the Annual Institutional Work Plan 2025, thus consolidating the deputies’ commitment to work efficiently and responsibly for the benefit of the citizens.
