The Government of El Salvador, through the Ministry of Housing, invested US$47,700 to legalize the homes of 106 families in the communities Bendición de Dios and Tierra Fértil, in the district of Coatepeque, Santa Ana. This effort seeks to guarantee legal security for salvadorans who for years dreamed of being the legitimate owners of their homes.
The minister of Housing, Michelle Sol, led the delivery of deeds, benefiting families mostly affected by the storm Stan, the eruption of the Ilamatepec volcano and the armed conflict. Of the total, 48% of the beneficiaries are women. “With great joy, we can say that today the mission has been accomplished. 106 families will receive their property documents. We have invested US$47,700, and recovered close to US$1,700,000”, said the minister.
The legalization process included diagnostics, inspections, legal and cadastral studies, topographic measurements, hydrological studies and the approval of social projects, in addition to procedures at the Centro Nacional de Registros. These actions ensure the legal validity of the deeds and the stability of the new owners.
The Bendición de Dios community, made up of 80 families, was displaced by natural disasters, while 26 families from Tierra Fértil, from San Vicente and Chalatenango, were able to organize themselves into cooperatives after being displaced by the armed conflict. Both groups now have legal backing to improve their quality of life.
Luis Marroquín, beneficiary of Tierra Fértil, expressed his gratitude to the government and to President Nayib Bukele: “I hope that each one of you is happy to be the owner of your land. This is an achievement for our families”.
With this delivery, the Government reaffirms its commitment to guarantee a dignified and safe home for the most vulnerable communities, prioritizing stability and the right of salvadorans to legal and affordable housing.
