The Ministerio de Obras Públicas y de Transporte (MOPT) has announced an investment of US$469,000 for the construction of a new bridge over the Colón River, in the district of Colón, La Libertad Oeste. This project is part of efforts to improve connectivity and reduce vulnerability in the area, following the collapse of the previous bridge due to river flooding.
The new bridge, which will span a length of 11 meters and cover 186 square meters, will have safety railings, asphalt pavement, and adequate signage. It is estimated that the project will directly benefit 1,600 people from nearby communities such as Campo Verdes, Veracruz and La Esperanza, and others.
According to the Minister of Public Works, Romeo Rodríguez, the work on the construction of the bridge is being carried out under a commitment to finish before next winter, in a period of no more than four months. In addition, a temporary walkway has been installed to guarantee the safe passage of residents while the work is being carried out.
This project is part of the MOP’s 2025 mitigation plan, which includes multiple interventions in key points of the country, such as work on slopes in Comalapa and the road to the Port of La Libertad, and other projects.
