The announcement was made by the Presidency of the Republic through its social networks, highlighting the importance of the meeting to strengthen bilateral ties. The visit of the US official is part of the cooperation between both nations in several strategic areas.
Marco Rubio’s arrival underscores the commitment of both governments to continue working on economic development, security and other areas of cooperation.
In this regard, the Secretary of State is scheduled to meet with President Bukele and the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the afternoon, as part of the beginning of his work agenda.
This will be the second time that President Bukele and Secretary Rubio meet. The first meeting was in 2023, when the U.S. diplomat was a senator in the U.S. Congress. While a senator in the U.S. Congress, the now Secretary of State praised the security policies implemented by President Bukele’s government, the results of which he witnessed during a visit in 2023.
This visit will serve to strengthen the strategic alliance between El Salvador, the government and the U.S. nation, as well as to set a joint work agenda between President Bukele and his counterpart Donald Trump.
