In june 2024, El Salvador’s imports showed a slight increase of US$2.9 million compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data from the Banco Central de Reserva de El Salvador. Total imports reached US$7,789.2 million, slightly higher than the US$7,786.3 million recorded in june 2023.
The United States is positioned as El Salvador’s main trading partner, with imports reaching US$18,808.7 million in the first semester of 2024. It is followed by the People’s Republic of China with US$9,109 million, Guatemala with US$6,417.6 million, Mexico with US$5,053.2 million, and other countries such as Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and South Korea complete the list of the country’s main trading partners.
Among the most imported products by El Salvador are petroleum oils, with a value of US$6,842.2 million, followed by medicines with US$1,892.6 million and telephones with US$1,449.6 million. In addition, products such as automobiles, t-shirts and corn are also among the main products imported by the country.
This increase in imports reflects El Salvador’s economic and trade dynamics, showing how imported products and services contribute significantly to the national economy and domestic consumption.
