To help improve the quality of life of Salvadorans and make the country more competitive, the Legislative Assembly amended the 2024 Budget Law to incorporate US$70 million to the Ministry of Finance. These resources will be used to implement the Low Emission Urban Mobility Support Program, which seeks to transition to the use of environmentally friendly transportation and boost the economy with sustainable investments.
The money comes from a loan signed with the Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF) and the executing institutions will be the ministries of the Environment and Public Works, through the Vice Ministry of Transportation.
When the Executive Branch asked the Assembly for the authorization to make the loan contract with the international organization, it argued that this would boost all the efforts made by El Salvador in terms of urban mobility and affirmed that the project will generate benefits to the transportation system and will give an economic impulse.
The legislator of Nuevas Ideas, Christian Guevara, recalled that the Assembly has supported other government programs aimed at the same purpose, among them the authorization to contract a loan to acquire 1,500 chinese buses.
The purpose is to renew 100% of the units and modernize the public transportation system, which has been deficient and of poor quality.
