The Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA) reported on the US$245 million investment for the second phase of the El Salvador International Airport Modernization Plan, with the aim of bringing its infrastructure up to world-class standards. This initiative seeks to consolidate the country as a key destination for tourism and investment in the region, increasing its competitiveness and operational capacity.
CEPA President Federico Anliker highlighted the progress already made on the project, mentioning that the earthworks at the Pacific Airport are already 50% complete, exceeding initial projections. These improvements demonstrate a firm commitment to the established schedule, which aims to complete the work in 2027.
The airport’s modernization includes the construction of a new terminal for baggage handling, customs, and immigration, as well as the addition of six new passenger lounges. The total number of boarding lounges is expected to increase to 27, with the possibility of further expansion, which will significantly improve passenger service capacity and efficiency.
The improvements include the construction of a four-level parking garage with capacity for 2,000 vehicles, the complete renovation of the passenger terminal building’s façade, and the installation of new equipment for more expeditious operations. The architectural design has been conceived to reflect a modern and functional environment that harmonizes with the country’s vision for the future.
In addition, the plan includes the construction and equipping of a new terminal for firefighting and rescue services, which will be larger and more efficient, ensuring airport safety. The modernization is in line with President Nayib Bukele’s vision of positioning El Salvador as a country with first-class infrastructure, capable of attracting investment and tourism.
