In a bid to strengthen the country’s international reach, the Finance and Special Budget Committee approved the ruling containing the “Special and Transitory Provisions Granting Immigration Facilities and Tax Benefits for the GET Forum 2025 Event” during its 69th regular session. This initiative, also presented by the President of the Republic through the Ministry of Finance, will aim to encourage the holding of high-impact international events in El Salvador.
The ruling contemplates, as stipulated in the official agenda, that “all payment for services, immigration and consular fees, as well as any fees or charges required for entry and exit to our country, be waived for all members of the delegations participating in said event.” Thus, El Salvador joins global standards in event planning, facilitating entry and temporary residency processes for foreign delegations and providing a highly competitive tax environment.
Representatives of the Ministry of Finance argued before the Commission that measures like this have a direct impact on attracting international visitors, strengthening the tourism industry, and promoting the country as a host of strategic global gatherings. “Global events require flexible legal frameworks and tax incentives that provide certainty and ease of access to organizers and participants; for this reason, the law is essential to the success of the GET Forum 2025”, the officials emphasized.

Members of the Finance Commission emphasized that the exemption from immigration fees and duties not only benefits official delegations but also positions El Salvador as a pioneer in the region in implementing open-door policies for major international events. “The GET Forum will become a showcase of opportunities for the country, and with this ruling, we guarantee the necessary conditions to maximize the economic, social, and diplomatic impact of the activity”, they said.
The decision to waive these payments was widely debated and enjoyed majority support in the committee. Legislators established that the measure would be temporary and specific to the event, detailing in the ruling the oversight and transparency mechanisms to ensure the proper use of these incentives.
The ruling will be submitted to the full Legislative Assembly, where swift approval is expected, given the strategic importance of the GET Forum event for El Salvador’s internationalization and economic promotion agenda.
