The Ministry of Finance announced a new tax amnesty that will allow individual and corporate taxpayers to regularize their tax obligations without paying fines or interest, with the aim of facilitating compliance and strengthening the country’s public finances.
The benefit will be in effect until December 14, during which time taxpayers can visit the Ministry of Finance offices or use digital platforms to take advantage of the program.
The Director General of Internal Revenue, Marvin Sorto, explained that the measure seeks to support those who, for various reasons, have accumulated penalties that even exceed the original amount of their debts.
“This is an opportunity to generate a new installment payment plan. If a taxpayer had a previous agreement and was unable to pay it off, they can reapply. Accrued interest and penalties will be waived under current law”, Sorto said.

The tax amnesty includes the regularization of income tax returns, tax returns, and even interest surcharges on traffic fines. However, the official clarified that traffic fines themselves are not exempt, only the interest generated by them.
The benefit also applies to cases that are already in the judicial process, including cases filed with the Fiscalía General de la República,, the Internal Revenue and Customs Appeals Court, and those in the contentious-administrative stage.
Sorto called on taxpayers to take advantage of this amnesty period, emphasizing that the deadline will not be extended. “Complying with tax obligations not only avoids legal proceedings, but also contributes to strengthening the country’s public finances”, the official emphasized.
With this measure, the Ministry of Finance reaffirms its commitment to promoting a culture of tax compliance, providing facilities to taxpayers, and ensuring greater revenue collection for national development.
