The Banco Central de Reserva (BCR) reported that the United States, Guatemala, and Nicaragua were the leading countries of origin for imports authorized by the Centro de Trámites de Importaciones y Exportaciones (CIEX El Salvador) during april 2026, reflecting the importance of these markets for supplying products and raw materials to the country.
According to data released by the institution, the United States ranks first among the countries of origin for authorized imports, solidifying its role as one of El Salvador’s main trading partners. The close economic relationship between the two nations allows for the constant exchange of industrial, technological, agricultural, and consumer goods.
Guatemala ranks second, one of El Salvador’s main trading partners in the Central American region. Geographic proximity, economic integration, and logistical ease facilitate the flow of goods between the two countries, boosting bilateral trade and strengthening regional supply chains.

The third position belongs to Nicaragua, a country that maintains significant trade with El Salvador, especially in agro-industrial products, food, and other goods that are part of intraregional trade.
The BCR highlighted that international trade plays a fundamental role in the salvadoran economy, as it ensures the supply of products necessary for consumption, production, and business activity. In this context, CIEX El Salvador continues to facilitate import and export processes by managing and authorizing procedures for various productive sectors.
The institution noted that foreign trade not only drives economic activity but also contributes to strengthening the country’s competitiveness, generating business opportunities, and expanding access to international markets for salvadoran companies.

Through CIEX El Salvador, importers and exporters can carry out various procedures related to international trade, streamlining processes that maintain the dynamism of commercial operations and guarantee a constant flow of goods to and from the national territory.
Data from april 2026 reflects the importance of the United States, Guatemala, and Nicaragua as strategic partners for El Salvador, both in terms of trade volume and their contribution to the functioning of supply chains that serve the national market.
