The Legislative Assembly amended the 2026 Budget Law to incorporate an additional US$97 million for various public institutions—funds derived from available securities issuance capacity, as reported by the Ministry of Finance during the 125th plenary session. Of this amount, the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG)will receive US$37 million, earmarked to strengthen Agromercados and cover logistics expenses for the remainder of the fiscal year.
The allocation to MAG is one of the most significant components of the budget amendment, which was approved with 57 votes. These resources will bolster logistical operations for Agromercados—initiatives driven by the institution to facilitate public access to food products.
According to the distribution plan presented to the lawmakers, the funds assigned to MAG will specifically serve to strengthen Agromercados and cover logistics costs. The institution will use this additional funding to address priority, time-sensitive commitments and to advance toward meeting its objectives and goals for the close of 2026.
In addition to MAG, the amendment includes funding for other institutions. The Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) will receive US$2.7 million for international litigation and operations; the Ministry of Public Security and Justice, US$31.19 million for inmate rehabilitation processes and detention-related conditions; and the Ministry of Governance and Territorial Development, US$19 million to strengthen public policy at both institutional and territorial levels.
Allocations will also be made to the Ministry of Public Works (US$1.3 million), the Ministry of Economy (US$1.5 million), and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (US$1.225 million). Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism will receive US$3.09 million for high-impact international events and sector-strengthening initiatives. Among the beneficiary decentralized institutions is the Directorate of Integration, which will receive US$10 million for transportation services, food, training programs, and scholarships under the “Florecimiento Salvadoreño” program. The RNPN will receive US$1.19 million to cover the cost of issuing the DUI for the first time, while CIFCO will receive US$1.5 million for institutional strengthening.
Additionally, the Autoridad Nacional de Residuos Sólidos will have US$1.3 million available to ensure the continuity of its operations related to integrated waste management. CORSATUR will receive US$2 million for strategic initiatives aimed at promoting El Salvador as a tourist destination and attracting visitors and investors.
With this reform, the MAG will receive a US$37 million boost, specifically allocated to Agromercados and the logistics associated with their operation. This budget modification is part of a US$97 million package designed to enable 13 public institutions to meet priority commitments during the remaining months of 2026.
