Oscar Domínguez, the honorary deputy minister of the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG), announced that, effective immediately, the sale of products from Agromercados to individuals intending to resell them is strictly prohibited.
According to the official, these Agromercados were created to provide families with access to quality food at fair prices; therefore, purchasing products for resale purposes runs counter to the project’s original objective.
Considering this directive, market managers and supervisors must strictly enforce established control measures to prevent abusive practices that could hinder families’ access to the products available at these locations.
MAG noted that individuals requiring wholesale purchases have an alternative: the Centrales de Abasto (CDA), where merchants and wholesale buyers can stock up throughout the week. According to the institution, these centers also offer competitive prices, which should be reflected in the resale prices charged to consumers.
Domínguez stated that authorities will continue to strengthen controls at Agromercados to ensure supply and help protect the public’s finances. The measure aims to ensure that products sold in these markets reach those who need them for personal consumption, rather than being purchased for resale.
MAG also urged the public to report any irregularities regarding the enforcement of these regulations. Citizens can file reports by calling the 912 call center or sending a message via WhatsApp to 7852-9500.
