Benjamín Mayorga, Director General of Customs, announced that personnel from the Dirección General de Aduanas (DGA) received specialized training to identify counterfeit cosmetic and skincare products during customs inspections.
Mayorga explained that the training aims to strengthen the capabilities of inspection staff, enabling them to recognize specific characteristics that help detect such goods upon their entry into the country.
The training was developed in partnership with the private sector as part of the DGA’s ongoing efforts to improve controls on goods inspected at customs checkpoints.

According to the official, one of the objectives of these initiatives is to help combat smuggling by better preparing staff to identify potential counterfeits during control procedures.
The training also relates to the protection of intellectual property rights, as the sale of counterfeit goods can harm the brands and companies that legally develop and market these products.
Another aspect highlighted by Mayorga is consumer protection, particularly regarding the risks posed by cosmetic and skincare products that are not genuine.

The DGA emphasized that this type of training is part of a strategy for the continuous professional development of its team, aimed at strengthening institutional capabilities and improving the identification of goods during customs inspections.
Mayorga noted that the institution remains committed to staff training and collaborative work with the private sector to strengthen controls, protect consumers, and support legitimate trade.
