The Banco Central de Reserva (BCR) has issued a warning regarding a new type of scam in which malicious actors use the institution’s image and name to offer purported loans and solicit money from users. The entity clarified that it does not grant loans nor request payments from individuals to provide financial services.
According to the alert issued by the BCR, scammers are using images and graphic elements associated with the institution to present fake financing offers. One example shows a supposed platform offering a preferential loan while pressuring the user to act quickly, claiming that only a few spots remain available.
The fraudulent post even displays a notice indicating that “9 installments” remain and that the offer expires around 11:00 PM, while urging users to apply for an immediate loan so as not to miss the opportunity. Such messages aim to create a sense of urgency and prompt people to make decisions without first verifying the information.
The BCR emphasized that it does not grant loans or request money for financial services; therefore, any person or platform using its name to offer financing or request payments should be viewed as a red flag. The institution recommended always verifying that information comes from official sources before providing personal data or making any payments.
