The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) held the webinar “Journalism and Research for Development: CABEI’s new open data platform”, with the participation of more than 200 journalists and researchers.
During the event, the new open data portal was presented, designed to offer reliable and structured information that facilitates rigorous analysis and transforms data into useful knowledge for research, journalism, and decision-making.

The launch of this first phase responds to one of the commitments of the Access to Information Policy (AIP), in force since july 2025, and is part of the activities for Transparency and Access to Information Month, in commemoration of the International Day for Universal Access to Information.
“This platform is a firm step in our commitment to accountability and is directly connected to the 2025–2029 Institutional Strategy, which promotes transparency as a pillar of our management”, said the Bank’s Executive President, Ms. Gisela Sánchez.

The director for Honduras and Chair of the Bank’s Communications and Access to Information Committee, Ms. Belinda Carías Martínez, said: “With this platform, CABEI provides journalists and researchers with a resource that not only strengthens transparency but also promotes knowledge generation and the construction of solutions for our region”.
At this same event, CABEI presented the Journalism and Research for Development Contest – CABEI – Open Data, whose objective is to recognize works that use information published by the Bank to showcase its contribution to sustainable development and regional integration.

This initiative seeks to encourage constructive journalism that transforms data into impactful investigations and stories, demonstrating how transparency and public information are drivers of trust, knowledge, and progress for our societies.
