The Dirección de Obras Municipales began the remodeling of school number 12 in the department of Ahuachapán. The new project is being developed in the San Rafael canton, district of Tacuba to benefit more than 500 students from kindergarten to ninth grade.

The project includes eight modules, of which two will be rebuilt and six remodeled. Among those to be remodeled are the library, the kitchen, the dining room and four classroom modules, for a total of eight classrooms, one of which will be used for kindergarten. All of them will have thermo-acoustic ceilings. For more than 20 years these educational centers were in total abandonment.

In addition, playgrounds, a basketball court, two sets of toilets, a teachers’ room, free internet, a wall with cyclone mesh, speed bumps, drainage, and a new electrical system will be rebuilt.

This is one of the more than 80 schools that the DOM is improving its infrastructure nationwide, of which 12 have already been delivered. In the western part of the country alone, 6 have been rebuilt and 25 more are under construction, while 3 more will be started in the next few days.

In addition to this school, in Tacuba, the crews are working on two road improvement projects: one of 5.3 kilometers that goes from the intersection with the national route to the San Rafael canton, and another that connects the El Rodeo canton with the San Pedro Oratory.

At the departmental level, in Ahuachapán, the DOM has revitalized the historic centers of Apaneca and Ataco as part of the strengthening of the Las Flores tourist route. In addition to these works, more than 40 kilometers of urban and rural streets in the department have been improved through the road improvement program and the National Road Repair Plan.
