The Government of El Salvador, in coordination with the Government of Guatemala, officially launched the Deep Integration of Customs and Migration Operations, with the inauguration of the new integrated system at the Anguiatú – La Ermita land border post. This initiative seeks to strengthen the business climate in the region, facilitate cross-border trade and generate favorable conditions for investment.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by high-level authorities from both countries, including the Ministers of Economy of El Salvador and Guatemala, María Luisa Hayem and Gabriela García, as well as representatives of SIECA, the Ministries of Finance, and the customs authorities of both nations. This integration responds to the joint commitment to move towards a more competitive and connected region.
During the ceremony, Minister Hayem emphasized that this integrated operation represents a milestone that will benefit exporters, importers, logistics companies and consumers by allowing a more agile flow of goods and a significant reduction in costs and times in commercial operations. “This translates into more opportunities for economic development”, he said.
Guatemalan minister Gabriela García described the initiative as a “cornerstone” that accelerates the free flow of people and goods. She also stressed that this integration not only has a positive economic impact, but also strengthens the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, reflecting a common will to move towards a stronger regional integration.
The implementation of these integrated operations seeks to eliminate redundancies, simplify procedures and reduce logistics costs for businessmen and carriers. The new model optimizes customs and immigration controls, increasing efficiency at border crossings and boosting bilateral trade.
This joint effort is part of a broader vision of the Salvadoran government to modernize its customs, facilitate foreign trade, and consolidate Central America as an attractive investment destination. The project also represents a firm step toward greater regional integration, which is essential for promoting sustainable and inclusive development.
