El Salvador is consolidating its position as a safe and attractive tourist destination for international investors, thanks to the recent expansion of commercial flights at the San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez International Airport. This friday, Copa Airlines, a subsidiary of Copa Holdings, S.A., celebrated the opening of three new connections between San Salvador and Panama, bringing the total number of weekly flights to 17 and connecting the country with more than 85 destinations in 32 nations. The ceremony was attended by the president of the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA), Federico Anliker, the Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, and the Director of the Civil Aviation Authority, Homero Morales.
CEPA’s President, Federico Anliker, underscored the importance of this expansion, noting the confidence placed by the airlines in the salvadoran airport. “We have witnessed the confidence that airlines have placed in us; proof of this is that they are activating more operations at our airport.
Today we are pleased to announce, together with our strategic partners, Copa Airlines, the inauguration of three new frequencies on the San Salvador-Panama route”, said Anliker.
The increase in air connectivity has had a significant impact on the airport’s activity. During the first half of 2024, more than 3.6 million passengers were handled, representing an increase of 23% over the same period last year. In addition, more than 31,300 flight operations were carried out, marking a 15% increase, reflecting the airport’s growing demand and operational efficiency.
Michael Wehmeyer, Copa Airlines’ General Manager for Central America, highlighted the role of the salvadoran government in facilitating the opening of new routes and operations. “For all of you who are making this a better El Salvador, we appreciate the opportunity we have to continue growing”, said Wehmeyer, reaffirming the airline’s commitment to the country’s development.
The country’s vision is focused on the modernization of aeronautical infrastructure, seeking to reduce costs and connectivity times, thus promoting tourism and economic development. This strategy not only strengthens El Salvador’s position as a safe tourist destination, but also attracts international investment, consolidating the country as a strategic point of connection in the region.
