El Salvador projects receiving triple the number of visitors to its various tourist destinations during the upcoming Holy Week, according to Tourism minister Morena Valdez. The minister highlighted the country’s continued high tourist demand, especially for sun and beach destinations, which remain the most popular choices for both domestic and international visitors.
The head of El Salvador’s Ministry of Tourism noted that between january and february, the country received more than 815,000 international visitors, primarily from Guatemala, the United States, and Honduras. Based on these figures, she explained that for the Holy Week period, they expect to receive up to three times that number of visitors to the country’s various tourist destinations.
Valdez said that, in the first months of the year, the country has already registered record numbers of international tourism, leading various tourist establishments to report occupancy levels between 80% and 100%. Given this situation, she called on business owners in the sector to maintain quality standards, compliance with regulations and certifications, to continue strengthening the tourism offerings.
“For this Holy Week, we are expecting triple the number of visitors in all tourist destinations. Sun and beach remain the favorite. I invite all business owners with private establishments in the coastal-marine zone, on lakes, in the mountains, and in towns to maintain the quality service that characterizes us as salvadorans”, the official said.
The statements were made during the presentation of the “family friendly” seal, a certification that recognizes tourist spaces that provide safe, accessible, and inclusive experiences for families. The recognition was awarded to the Estero y Mar Hotel and Restaurant, which became the first private company in the country to receive this distinction.
The establishment is in the San Luis Talpa district and was recognized for offering facilities and services designed to ensure the comfort and safety of visiting families.
The certification is part of an initiative spearheaded by Gabriela de Bukele, which seeks to promote a national tourism strategy with a family focus, encouraging businesses and tourist destinations to implement standards that foster inclusion and the well-being of children.

Elisa Gamero, Head of Health and Nutrition Projects for the First Lady’s Office, explained that the recognition awarded to the establishment also reflects the founders’ commitment to creating suitable spaces for families.
Gamero indicated that, as part of the certification process, improvements were made to strengthen the family-oriented approach of the establishment, including the installation of a breastfeeding room and the implementation of signage aimed at protecting young children.
Among the features that allowed the hotel to obtain certification are the safety and security of its spaces, universal design and accessibility, as well as its offering of family activities, suitable dining options, and staff trained in customer service and respectful treatment.
In addition, the establishment has adapted interior spaces, including protective covers on electrical outlets, corners, and windows, with the aim of providing greater safety for children and families visiting the hotel.
With this type of initiative, the authorities seek to strengthen the country’s tourism offerings and consolidate El Salvador as an attractive destination for family tourism, in a context where the flow of visitors continues to grow and a significant increase is projected during holiday periods such as Holy Week.
